Choosing the right college is not a matter to be taken lightly. Countless factors are considered and numerous opinions are taken into account, but perhaps one of the most important determining factors is the university's commitment to integrity.
For example, one of the reasons why I chose my alma mater, the University of Detroit Mercy, is because of the integrity promoted in its mission statement:
The University of Detroit Mercy, a Catholic university in the Jesuit and Mercy traditions, exists to provide excellent student-centered undergraduate and graduate education in an urban context. A UDM education seeks to integrate the intellectual, spiritual, ethical and social development of our students.
So you can understand my confusion when my school's performing arts program hosted a production of the Vagina Monologues my freshman year.
How could a university whose mission was similar to my own personal and moral values host a production that vehemently promotes an anti-male worldview, portrays women as perpetual victims, and is unapologetically anti-heterosexual? The Vagina Monologues highlights statutory rape, violent intimate relationships, stories of underage girls, and much more (and worse).
